The HY was launched in 1948. Post-war France needed commercial vehicles to rebuild the country and revive the economy. It was born under the impetus of Pierre Boulanger, who chose a specification that emphasised practicality, robustness and the use of existing parts in the range. In fact, its development began during the war in the greatest secrecy and without attracting the attention of the occupying forces. Its 1200 kg load capacity and ease of loading meant that it lasted through the decades, and was produced until 1981.
