Caroll Shelby was a Texan racing driver who was forced to stop his career in 1960 at the age of 37, due to ill health. He then set about designing the ultimate American sports car, capable of competing with the likes of Ferrari and Porsche. He found a chassis from the British manufacturer AC Bristol. Combined with Ford's V8 engine, this base became a real winning machine. Competing against the much heavier Corvettes, the lightweight Cobra worked wonders in all the states of America in search of speed. The 427 was launched in 1965 with a revised chassis, wider tracks and tyres, swollen wings and a 427 cubic inch (7 litre) engine that produced an insane 410 bhp.
